Booking Holidays A Year In Advance

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

When it comes to holidays I try to be money conscious and plan them in advance trying to take advantage of the bargains. Mostly I like to plan three to six months in advance. Just saw this Virgin Australia deal, which offers advance booking till February next year. That is a good offer but I am not sure if I would want to book a year in advance. Am i alone in thinking that booking holidays a year in advance is not really practical? Or it is perfectly ok to do so? If it is then I am missing out on good offers :-/

Anyway has anyone ever booked holidays a year in advance and how did it go?

Also would you book holidays a year in advance or would recommend doing so?

Yeah! And I would honestly recommend to do so as well. It costs much less than planning near the holiday/Vacation season. For me then everything falls in to a plan where i know after working hard for a year, i can treat myself with a good affordable vacation. I can see the light at the end of a tunnel :D Its like setting up a goal for myself! Now that i have booked it, I should be able enough to avail it!

Don't get me wrong I do like planning ahead but a year in advance is way too long in advance. Also the whole year wait to finally go on a holiday would be a bit painful, i would barely be able to hold my excitement...

I agree it's not practical except for things like Christmas/Easter if you're returning home to see family. Also I have a wedding in Jan next year that I will book flights for as soon as I see a worthwhile sale - so it it's for an event you know you'll be going to then it can be worthwhile. So far I haven't seen any sales that far ahead for domestic flights!!!

*but* always ensure you have insurance and/or can change the dates should something change meaning you can't go or otherwise have to postpone. Even in a week things can happen - you get sick, someone close to you gets sick, you have to change jobs, etc....

I totally agree with ninhusrag on this point. This takes proper planning but in the end helps in saving money.
